Title Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description The manufacturing engineer will plan, design, set-up, modify, optimize and monitor manufacturing processes to achieve the key business drivers established by the leadership team. These drivers are identified in priority order as follows: safety, quality, delivery and cost. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the Job: • Develop and implement new manufacturing methods to reduce production costs and improve efficiency. • Investigate and analyze production methods, processes and operations to determine manufacturing modifications that will increase production efficiency and reduce costs. • Review the design of product components and parts and recommend design changes that will facilitate product manufacturing, reduce costs, exploit the advantages of new materials, etc. • Observe and analyze scrap or rework operations to determine causes. Advise concerned personnel of the results and recommend solutions to problems. • Compile pertinent cost, manpower efficiency, machine capability, space utilization, material handling, etc., to support new manufacturing methods or modification recommendations. • Prepare data package including layouts, equipment quotations, and written justifications for capital appropriation requests as required for process/efficiency improvements. • Oversee, coordinate and modify current production methods to increase production efficiency and reduce cost. • Create, develop and / or maintain production documentation as needed. These items include JIP sheets, work instructions, control plans, standardized work charts and shop aids. • Conduct studies to prepare and recommend new and revised operating procedures to maintain control, improve operations, and facilitate processing. • Analyze, develop, recommend and justify tooling requirements for assigned lines. Approve the procurement implementation, and utilization of tools. • Compile and analyze significant data relative to the solution of manufacturing problems and/or cost reduction studies, i.e., vendor capabilities and fabrication costs to determine the economics and feasibility of ‘make or buy' decisions; the correlation of product design requirements with manufacturing operations and capabilities; the economics of maintaining inventory levels based on machining cost per volume, etc. • Prepare and submit manufacturing cost estimates and substantiating data for review and approval. • Prepare and submit manufacturing procedures and plans interfacing with customers on specialized jobs. • Utilize lean tools to reduce waste generated by the eight streams. • Serve as Champion of one or more of the Eaton lean tools (TPM, 6S, VSM, Pull, Error-Proofing, Set up Reduction, Flow, Standard Work). • Lead a cross-functional team in the area of set-up reduction. • Initiate, review and take action relating to machine capability (EQS policies). • Mentor co-ops and technicians. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
/Educational Requirements MINIMUM COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: • Comprehensive knowledge of all Manufacturing Engineering and manufacturing activities including processing, CNC programming for lathes, machining centers and grinders, tooling, plant layout, work flow, manufacturing cost control and reduction. • Ability to evaluate manufacturing problems in team format, prepare financial justification data, and submit Capital Requisitions for new and improved equipment. • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing in order to analyze, evaluate and determine solution to a wide variety of problems that may affect assigned area. • Human relations skills to direct processing personnel and to work with other plant supervisory personnel. • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) • Technical writing ability. May require familiarity with military, company, or international specifications and appropriate format. • PFMEA development MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • Equivalent to three (3) years related industrial experience. MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering PREFERED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND COMPETENICES IN: • Masters degree in Related Field • Green belt / Black belt Six sigma certification • CMM programming
